Section Meeting GB Inspection
Report of the north Atlantic Section of ASNT Meeting at GB Inspection, Walsall, UK

This was a terrific meeting with 15 people attending. There was much lively debate about the new on-line exams and in particular how that was going to effect the NATL Section going forward. The principle of on-line exams is seen generally as a great step forward, giving candidates more flexibility on where and when to take their exams. This coupled with greater content security, although this has never been an issue with exams proctored by the NATL Section it is recognised that any loss of exam integrity effects all of us.
It was noted that The Chair, Jason Taylor and Vice chair Michelle Clapham’s visit to the ASNT Fall conference was a great success and this is an important part of the NATL’s activities as it was felt that strong representation from this side of the pond is important to ensure that ASNT keeps advancing. It was also noted that the trip was distinctly less eventful without an Eddie Harper story to come back with.
Mark Ormrod our Regional director brought us all up to speed on things happening in the region.
After a top notch lunch provided by GB Inspection, a talk on the development of the ultrasonic probe manufacturing company and a tour of the production facility. It was particularly interesting to see the streamlining of the production process by utilising systems and procedures more often seen in automotive manufacturing plants. Its by blending these systems with the skills and expertise of their employees the GB Inspection can offer the quality and service that they do, on an increasing scale.
Our thanks go to GB Inspection for hosting this meeting
Jason Taylor
Section Chair
